Songbird

60,00

The Songbird from Kay Bojesen joins the family of wooden animals created by the artist. The Songbirds were designed in the 1950s but were never put into production since spring 2012 in six colourful personalities.

The Songbirds are made of solid beech and hand-painted, and they are named after the designer and his family: Ruth, Pop, Otto, Kay, Peter and Sunshine.

The Bojesen’s patio at the family home Bella Vista near Bellevue, north of Copenhagen, was full of flowers, wicker furniture – and birds. There can be no doubt that this is the source of Kay Bojesen’s inspiration for the carefree songbird that he designed in the 1950s and hand-painted in cheerful colours. All six birds have a clean, modern expression, stripped of superfluous details. The birds are so lifelike that it is easy to imagine them breaking out in song as the sun rises.

Kay is named after the master himself, a huge fan of the blue colour. Kay Bojesen was always impeccably dressed in either a blue suit, shirt and tie or his white smock. A gentleman with a sense for underplayed, discreet elegance!

Alfred is the latest addition to the family of wooden toys – from monkeys and hippos to songbirds. Alfred is made of natural and smoked oak and is ideal for any contemporary interior where natural materials dominate.

Ruth is named after Kay Bojesen’s Swedish daughter-in-law. With her femininity and pink body, she took the family by storm.

Pop is named after a Danish soda water called Soda Pop, which was the only thing Kay Bojesen ever drank.

Peter is named after the oldest of Kay Bojesen’s four grandchildren, and the family describes him as an elegant, modern gentleman.

The Songbird Sunshine represents one of the five colour combinations in Kay Bojesen’s range of songbirds.

Songbird Ernst is named after Kay Bojesen´s father, an extremely versatile man. He was a business man, editor, cultural personality and a creative soul, who together with his wife Valborg inspired his son Kay to create a flock of beloved wooden figures.

Lovebirds. Give a gift that will last a lifetime. Kay Bojesen’s universe of wooden toys has just added more than songbirds to its family. These love birds only have eyes for each other as they stand there beak to beak. Decorative on a desk or window sill, they are a little reminder of love. This infatuated couple is a perfect gift idea for weddings and any fan of Danish design.

The Songbird – like her five colourful siblings – was never put into production when first designed by Kay Bojesen in the 1950s. A gift idea for a flying start to life. Perfect for christenings, birthdays, school leavers, anniversaries and weddings.
